Absolutely one of the most astonishing releases to come out this year has to be from Finland’s Swallow The Sun and their dynamic achievement titled Hope. Since its release I have played it nearly to death. Having not been familiar with the band until this release which actually marks their third in all I found myself asking who these guys are and why haven’t I heard of them before? As I came to find out, they aren’t exactly newcomers to the scene but are just now beginning to reach the U.S. audience with their particular brand of doom/gothic Death Metal and needless to say I was intrigued even further and couldn’t wait until my opportunity to see them in a live setting.
That time came rather quickly in fact and as they recently passed through my corner of the world during their debut U.S. stint with Katatonia, Scar Symmetry and fellow Finnish act Insomnium. As you might guess I was utterly thrilled to have been in attendance. Now as the plan was laid out before me I was originally scheduled to interview these guys prior to their performance, however that didn’t pan out due to a break down in communication. So I opted for afterwards, which proved to be more interesting than I ever could have imagined. Being that this was L.A. and large amounts of alcohol were readily available the conversation that followed was lets say just a bit erratic. Nevertheless it was a good interview and I believe once you get past the jokes and somewhat irreverent behavior most of the answers presented were coherent enough to make some pretty decent points of view. Overall it was a blast hanging with these guys and I hope you find this interview as amusing as I did. Here it is unedited in all it’s glory, check it out! Click Below To listen to the conversation.
