Hey everyone! We are proud to announce that shortly after the release of our upcoming album New Moon we'll be embarking on a European tour together with our very good friends from Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum!
This is our first time on our own in UK, so we are really looking forward to this, and in addition this is the first time since 2006 you will have a chance to hear a full length set from us, because we've been mostly touring as support and playing festivals. So, with all kinds of shit coming up and with a completely Finnish line up we know it's going to be cool!

So, it is time to reveal some things about the new album!
We are entering Fascination Street studios in Sweden, Orebro on June 15th to record our fifth album which will be called 'New Moon'. The album will be produced and mixed by Jens Bogren, who has worked with such names as Katatonia, Opeth, Paradise Lost and Amon Amarth, just to name a few. And as we announced earlier, Kai Hahto (Wintersun, ex-Rotten Sound) will be playing drums on the album. We are thrilled and looking forward to working with such professionals.
Here is the initial track listing for the album (although we reserve the right to change it if we feel like it)

We are glad to announce that Kai Hahto (Wintersun, ex-Rotten Sound) will be playing drums on our forthcoming album and live shows next summer.
We have known Kai for years, and we have worked with him earlier when he played with us on our North American tour back in 2007. Knowing what he's capable of behind the drum set we are really excited about working with him again. We are confident that he can deliver drum parts that will not only perfectly fit the trademark Swallow the Sun -sound, but take it even further. We'll start rehearsing with him at the end of this month, and we'll keep you posted on how the album is coming up!
Line-up change There is no easy way to phrase this, so let's get straight to the point: due to a mutual decision Pasi Pasanen will no longer be playing with Swallow the Sun.
Pasi, as one of the founding members, has been an integral part of the development of the band and it's sound since the beginning back in 2000. We have had good times, recorded 4 excellent albums and done unbelievable amounts of touring together, but now it's time for us to go on our separate ways.
Here's Pasi's comments on the situation:
"Lately, I've been having a lack of motivation towards this kind of music and touring. The guys have felt it too and there's no point for me to deny it. It just affects the chemistry in the band too much, so it is time for me to step aside. I've gotten many good friends and some of the best experiences ever touring with StS. About 200 shows in 21 countries is something I never thought I'd get to do, so I want to thank & hail all the great people, friends, bands we've toured with and especially Juha, Jämy, Martti, Aleksi and Mikko for these years. And I'm sure you fans wont be disappointed with the future StS. Me and Juha will continue working together in Plutonium Orange, and you never know what other things the future brings, so: cheers everyone, see you somewhere!"
We wish him well in everything, and Pasi will continue to play with Juha in Plutonium Orange - which is the band that got Swallow the Sun started in the first place - and they are just finishing their debut album.
For what it comes to upcoming shows and the new album nothing will change. We won't cancel any shows, and we will enter Fascination Street studios 15th of June to record our next album. More information about everything will follow soon.
The band has already announced a US Tour in February/March with Soilwork, Darkane and Warbringer, but will now be back again in May with Enslaved and Keep of Kalessin!

So, we have finished recording the "Plague of Butterflies" and it's time to give you some details about this forthcoming release.
Plague of Butterflies is a story about an old hermit, deep woods, loneliness and the plague. It's one song in three parts and holds about 35 minutes of crushing gloom, beauty and despair. Music was originally ordered from us for a really interesting and big project, but the project was sadly abandoned. Because of this we are planning to use the music in different context - namely in a short movie - and we are in search for suitable partners to make this happen. We'll give more info on this later as things move on and wheels start to roll.

The album also includes the rare "Out of This Gloomy Light" demo that got us signed back in 2003. There was only three demos sent out, so this is really rare stuff and holds some of the darkest and coldest moments ever recorded by us.

About the Past and the Future Some news from the frontline. First of all we want to thank everyone for making year 2007 such an amazing year for Swallow the Sun. We played almost 100 gigs supporting the album "Hope", including 2 European tours, our first North-American tour and a mini tour in Spain and Portugal. We had an honour to play huge festivals outside Finland, such as Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, With Full Force and Metal Heart Festival. We also shot two videos, for "Don't Fall Asleep" and "Doomed to Walk the Earth".
"Hope" got some good positions in yearly readers' and critics' polls, including the 3rd position in Best Metal Album -series in Soundi-magazine critics' poll. We were voted also in many other music magazine's readers' polls for the best band and album of 2007, with the charts consisting mainly of mainstream artists in Finland. We won the "Mättöfemma" gategory in Femmagaala awards in Finland.
So, big thanks to all you who made it worth it by coming to see us on tour, buying the album and making it enter the national Finnish charts on position #3 and being so nice to us where ever we went.
Alright, about the dark future: We are now rehearsing new music and enter studio this spring to record the next Swallow The Sun release called "Plague of Butterflies", that will be released later this year. We will give you more news about this new opus soon and what it will be...
